With healthy eating and healthy living hitting a high note on our priority list, environmental health is also top of mind, which is why we make a conscious effort to go "green" with our products and preparations. 85% of our packaging is recyclable, from paper bags to foil containers to foil wrappers. Our paper bags have at least 75% post-consumer waste content, saving thousands of trees over the course of a year.
To ensure we continue to do our part for the planet, we have met with Markham Waste Management Services to review all of our packaging options and educate ourselves on what we can do to improve our eco initiatives, such as:
  • Look for compostable, not biodegradable products. "Compostable" breaks down in the natural environment, while "bio-degradeable" will only break down with the right environment and conditions.
  • Look for paper with post consumer waste content of 70% or higher.
  • Focus on recyclable packaging, since schools only offer blue bin and garbage pick-up for now.
In spite of what Kermit the Frog says, it really is easy being green and it doesn't stop with our packaging. At our facility, we recycle all packaging from the food items we use and we print our reports on scrap paper to reduce waste. It's the small things that add up to make a big difference!
